EA spends $650 million to purchase PopCap Games. "In one fell swoop the virtual giants collide, creating an enormous monopoly within the realm of virtual commerce which relies heavily on emotionally based purchases. OK, that might be a little over the top, but we could be reaching a sensitive topic here, and I've yet to mention the implications this has for other smaller game developers. But let us be clear on one thing, EA Games has a passion for making some fairly clever deals in the past (think NFL), and PopCap creates games that engage their customers for life, so this is a good move for gamers."
